Agentic AI: 1/3 of Smartphones by 2027, Says Analysts

The smartphone industry is rapidly moving towards Agentic AI. Counterpoint Research projects that one in three smartphones sold in 2027 could support these capabilities. Here's the thing: Agentic AI-capable smartphone chip shipments are expected to grow at a 281% compound annual growth rate between 2025 and 2027. This means penetration is set to rise from 4% in 2025 to 32% by 2027. What's interesting is the competition among chipmakers. MediaTek became the first to commercialize Agentic AI through its Dimensity 9400 series, ahead of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. MediaTek is also pushing these advanced AI features into broader price categories. Device makers like Apple, Samsung, and Google are pursuing different AI strategies. Apple focuses on on-device AI processing. Samsung is investing in memory-focused AI and partnering with AMD and Perplexity for its Galaxy S26 lineup. Google uses a hybrid edge-to-cloud AI strategy. Analysts expect Agentic AI features to expand beyond premium phones, reaching mid-high-tier devices. This could significantly change how we interact with our phones in the near future.
