Akamai Acquires LayerX: $205M for AI Browser Security

Akamai Technologies is acquiring LayerX for about 205 million US dollars. This move aims to enhance Akamai's security strategy, specifically in controlling how workers use artificial intelligence in browsers. The deal focuses on strengthening Akamai's Zero Trust and AI usage control capabilities. It also brings new cybersecurity talent from Tel Aviv to Akamai's team. This acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026. The LayerX business is projected to generate roughly 10 million US dollars in annual recurring revenue by the end of 2026. However, it is also expected to dilute 2026 non-GAAP earnings per share by about 12 cents. This acquisition shows how companies are investing to manage the security risks associated with AI use in the workplace.
