Anthropic Fable 5: AI Model Access Restored Globally

Anthropic has restored global access to its powerful AI model, Fable 5. This comes two weeks after the Trump administration placed export controls on the model due to security concerns. The AI company announced Tuesday that the restrictions have been relaxed. U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed this, stating the government worked with Anthropic to ensure Fable aligns with U.S. interests. Access to Fable and a related model, Mythos 5, had been restricted since mid-June. The government initially banned their use by foreign nationals, leading Anthropic to suspend access for all users. The Trump administration cited national security, fearing hostile actors could "jailbreak" the models. However, the restrictions were short-lived. Last week, the government allowed Anthropic to release Mythos to over 100 U.S.-based companies and federal agencies. Now, both Mythos and Fable are available again. Anthropic, valued at roughly $1 trillion, plans to increase its collaboration with the government. It will also work with companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google to set industry standards for assessing AI vulnerabilities. This development shows how quickly the landscape for advanced AI models can shift.
