Alibaba and its AI research division, Qwen, allegedly used thousands of fraudulent accounts to extract capabilities from Anthropic's Claude AI models. The activity reportedly occurred between April 22 and June 5, involving over 28.8 million exchanges with Claude through nearly 25,000 fake accounts. Anthropic claims this was an unauthorized extraction of intellectual property, targeting Claude's capabilities like software engineering and advanced reasoning. The company believes the operation aimed to accelerate the development of Alibaba's AI models.
