Domyn: Open-Source Frontier AI Model Coming in a Year

Domyn, a Milan-based startup, plans to launch an open-source frontier AI model within a year. This model aims to exceed 400 billion parameters and will be trained from scratch. What's interesting is that Domyn, formerly known as iGenius, has grown to over a billion-dollar valuation. They already offer two models, Domyn Small and the larger Domyn model, and collaborate with NVIDIA for supercomputing. This new project is part of Europe's push for AI sovereignty, aiming to build models that can run on local servers, which is crucial for regulated industries. Domyn leads the Europa consortium, which won the European Commission’s Frontier AI Grand Challenge, focusing on a sovereign AI system for all 24 official EU languages. The company has publicly discussed plans to raise over 1 billion euros for AI initiatives and invest up to $10 billion over three years in AI infrastructure. This could be one of the largest AI infrastructure commitments in European history. This development signifies a major step in Europe's efforts to compete in the global AI landscape.
