Googlebook: Gemini AI, Android Apps & ChromeOS Replaced

Google has confirmed that "Googlebook" will replace Chromebooks, shifting to an intelligence-first laptop concept. This new device integrates Gemini intelligence and Android apps. Google's Senior Director for Laptops and Tablets, Alex Kuscher, confirmed these details. A key feature is "Magic Pointer," developed with Google DeepMind. This cursor uses Gemini's contextual intelligence; for example, pointing at a date can surface a calendar invite. Googlebook merges Android apps with the ChromeOS browser into a single platform. This signals the effective retirement of ChromeOS as a standalone operating system. Another feature, "Cast My Apps," allows streaming Android phone apps directly to the Googlebook. This addresses the "app gap" that affected Chromebooks. "Quick Access" also lets users view and insert files from their Android phone without transfers. The "Create your Widget" feature allows users to generate personalized dashboards using natural language, pulling information from services like Gmail and Calendar. This new approach aims to redefine the laptop experience.
