GPT-5.5 Launched: OpenAI's New AI Excels in Coding & Science

OpenAI has launched GPT-5.5, its newest artificial intelligence model, just six weeks after its previous release. This new model excels at coding, computer use, and scientific research. Here's the thing: GPT-5.5 can handle multi-step work with less human guidance. It can plan, use tools, and even verify its own output. OpenAI President Greg Brockman highlights its ability to do more with less direction. The model scored 82.7% on Terminal-Bench 2.0, outperforming Claude Opus 4.7. On Artificial Analysis’s Intelligence Index, GPT-5.5 scored 60, three points higher than its competitors. However, it did not win every benchmark; Claude Opus 4.7 scored higher on SWE-Bench Pro and multilingual Q&A. The standard edition costs $5 per million input tokens and $30 per million output tokens, which is double the price of GPT-5.4. A Pro version is also available. This is the first fully retrained base model since GPT-4.5, with a 1 million token context window. GPT-5.5 is rolling out to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users in ChatGPT and Codex.
