OpenAI Codex Micro: Physical Control Panel for Devs

OpenAI has launched a new physical control panel called Codex Micro, priced at $230. This device is designed for developers using OpenAI's agentic coding platform, Codex. OpenAI partnered with keyboard maker Work Louder for this limited-edition product. Codex Micro helps developers manage multiple coding agents by moving controls from the ChatGPT desktop app to dedicated mechanical keys, a joystick, and a rotary dial. Agent Keys feature live RGB lighting to show the status of connected Codex agents, letting developers see if an agent is thinking, running, or has completed its task. The device also offers customizable Command Keys for frequent actions and a joystick for common development workflows. A rotary dial adjusts the Codex reasoning level. All controls can be configured via the ChatGPT desktop app, and it supports Windows and macOS, connecting via Bluetooth or USB-C. Codex has seen significant growth, reaching 8 million weekly active users as of yesterday. This new hardware could further enhance the workflow for a growing number of developers.
