Proton has released Lumo 2.0, adding image generation and editing capabilities to its privacy-focused chatbot. This update also includes a "thinking" reasoning mode, faster default responses, persistent memory, and private web search. What's interesting is that Proton states Lumo 2.0 Lite scores 127% higher and Lumo 2.0 Max scores 240% higher than the previous version on the independent Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index. This suggests that privacy-first assistants are starting to match the capabilities of mainstream models. All image processing and chat data are protected by zero-access encryption, meaning Proton cannot access user content. Proton also confirms Lumo keeps no logs and does not train on user conversations. This matters because it shows privacy-focused AI tools are becoming more competitive, offering advanced features while maintaining strong data protection.
