Trump Admin Seeks Staggered GPT-5.6 Rollout

The Trump administration has reportedly asked OpenAI to delay the full launch of its upcoming AI model, GPT-5.6. Instead of a full release, the government wants OpenAI to stagger its rollout. This request follows a similar situation where rival AI firm Anthropic suspended access to its advanced models due to regulatory pressure. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told employees the government wants GPT-5.6 released to select trusted partners first, before public availability. He also noted the government's increasing concerns about advanced AI. Altman stated OpenAI should work with the administration on safety feedback, even if they disagree with some suggestions. This comes after Anthropic restricted global access to its models, Mythos 5 and Fable 5, on a US government order citing national security. Separately, Anthropic accused China's Alibaba Group of unauthorized access to its Claude AI model. This alleged campaign involved nearly 25,000 fake accounts and over 28.8 million interactions with Claude between April 22 and June 5. The bottom line is that government concerns are directly impacting the release and access to advanced AI models.
