VS Code 1.125: Copilot Spend Meter Added After Billing Shock

The latest Visual Studio Code release, version 1.125, now includes a Copilot spend meter. This new feature directly shows users how much of their additional Copilot budget has been consumed. This change comes after developers reported unexpected usage spikes due to GitHub's AI-credit billing model. The Copilot status dashboard in the editor will now display the percentage of a user's additional budget that has been used. Microsoft explains this helps developers monitor their budget before reaching a set limit. GitHub's June 1 billing update made usage-based billing active for all Copilot plans. Users can continue spending beyond included AI credits by setting an additional spending budget. This new meter helps developers track that extra spending directly within their tools.
