Anthropic Extends Claude Fable 5 Access Amid AI Rivalry

Anthropic has extended access for its Claude Fable 5 model for subscribers for the second time in a week. This move appears to be a response to OpenAI’s recent launch of its new ChatGPT model. Anthropic announced this decision on X, through email, and on its support page. Subscribers can now access Claude Fable 5 at no extra cost through July 19. This follows a one-week promotion on July 7. During that time, Claude users could spend up to 50% of their weekly subscription limits on Fable. Users can still purchase usage credits if they exhaust their expanded access. This extension comes just three days after OpenAI launched GPT-5.6, featuring its flagship model Sol. OpenAI states Sol achieved "state-of-the-art" results and outperformed previous models at a lower cost. OpenAI claims Sol also outperformed Anthropic's Fable in coding tasks. What's interesting is the growing public rivalry between Anthropic and OpenAI. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, a former OpenAI employee, recently commented on his departure, citing a lack of shared vision and trust with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The bottom line is that competition in the AI space is heating up, leading to rapid developments and new offerings for users.
