CDNetworks: AI Industrializes Cyberattacks, API Abuse Surges

A new report from CDNetworks reveals that AI is fundamentally changing the economics of cyberattacks. It's making them cheaper, faster, and easier to launch. What's interesting is that AI is industrializing automated attacks. These are shifting from simple scripts to adaptive, human-like abuse across applications and APIs. The report also found that API abuse is becoming a main way for business logic attacks. CDNetworks blocked over 15 billion malicious API requests per month on average in 2025. AI bot traffic is creating new challenges for governance, with 1.64 million AI bot requests observed daily in 2025. Multi-layer DDoS attacks are also raising the bar for defense. These attacks use platforms and automation tools to move across different network layers. Finally, enterprises in the APAC region are facing concentrated application-layer attack pressure, accounting for over 67% of L7 DDoS activity in 2025. The bottom line is that AI is compressing the time defenders have to understand and contain threats, requiring organizations to adapt their security strategies.
