NIST CSF 2.0: AI & Quantum Shift Security Frameworks

Organizations are still picking security frameworks using outdated methods from 2022. This approach is no longer effective due to recent changes. What's interesting is that the security landscape has transformed significantly since then. We've seen four major shifts. NIST CSF 2.0, revised in February 2024, now makes cybersecurity a board governance obligation for all organizations. The DORA regulation, applicable in January 2025, mandates ICT risk management for 22,000 EU financial entities. Post-quantum cryptography standards were finalized by NIST in August 2024, making quantum readiness an operational need. Finally, AI has created a new risk surface, with NIST publishing a draft Cyber AI Profile in December 2025. The bottom line is that choosing the right security framework is now more complex and crucial than ever before. This decision requires input from various departments, including legal, compliance, and finance.
