SpaceXAI & Cursor Launch AI Model: Who Owns Dev Data?

SpaceXAI and Cursor are launching a jointly-developed AI model as soon as Wednesday, July 9th. This new model will ship inside both Cursor, the AI code editor, and Grok Build, SpaceXAI’s developer product. The model was trained on SpaceX's Colossus supercomputer. SpaceX acquired Cursor in a significant all-stock deal. Previously, Cursor was a model-neutral editor, but its Privacy Mode now allows user code to be used for model training. This means real code-editing sessions will become proprietary training data. SpaceXAI has created a closed system, from computing power to distribution through Cursor's engineer base, and now, real-world code for training. This gives them a powerful data advantage that other companies cannot easily replicate. It fundamentally changes who controls the tools and data in AI-assisted software development.
