Viber Integrates ChatGPT: AI Tools Now in Your Chats

Rakuten Viber has partnered with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT-powered features directly into its messaging app. This means users can now access AI tools without leaving their conversations. A dedicated ChatGPT contact is available within Viber. Users can ask questions, brainstorm ideas, and draft messages. You don't need a ChatGPT account for basic use, but signing in offers higher usage limits. Users can also mention @ChatGPT in chats for AI-generated responses, which are clearly identified. Viber states that only messages sent to or mentioning ChatGPT are shared with OpenAI, not entire chat histories. The update also brings features like Image Remix for photo editing, Link Summary for articles, Chat Summary to catch up on conversations, Polish Messages for refining drafts, and Translate Message. Viber CEO Ofir Eyal says this partnership adds daily value for users. OpenAI's Torben Severson notes that AI can support users within their existing messaging apps. This rollout is available on iOS and Android in most markets where ChatGPT is supported, with desktop availability coming later. Users must consent to OpenAI’s terms, and core messaging remains end-to-end encrypted. This integration aims to make AI tools a seamless part of your daily communication.
